The Singular 2023 Q4 Marketing Trends Report is out, offering a trove of insights into the current state of mobile app marketing and user acquisition. Using proprietary data on language targeting, Bidease contributed analysis to the report that uncovers hidden opportunities to expand into emerging markets, such as MENA, without incurring the costs commonly associated with expanding into a new market.
As one of the fastest-growing markets for mobile advertising, MENA (Middle East and North Africa) has become a desirable location for apps that want to expand quickly into new regions. MENA boasts over 300 million mobile internet users and upwards of 90% smartphone penetration in countries like the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, and Jordan, where apps have emerged as the preferred digital channel. Notably, in 2023, users from the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Saudi Arabia, and Egypt engaged with apps 1.6 times more often than their North American and European counterparts.
After analyzing over 76 million unique devices over a thirty-day period, we found that English is the most common device language among MENA users, making up 46% of the device language share compared to just 35% of devices set to Arabic. In countries like Qatar, the UAE, and Oman, English has an especially strong presence on mobile devices, accounting for over 70% of device language share. Surprisingly, 71% of Iranian devices were also set to English compared to less than 30% of devices set to Farsi, the country’s official language.
For apps developed in English, emerging markets like MENA provide an excellent opportunity to expand their advertising reach without spending on localization.
